Civil Trial Defense Law - Norristown, PA

The first thing you should know about me and our firm is that we represent very good people, people who make a very valuable contribution to society. We've developed a great rapport with the medical community over the years. They are all terrific people.

I have always been a trial lawyer, and all I do now is medical malpractice defense. In my career I have gone to trial defending 82 medical malpractice cases - 80 of those were verdicts for my clients. I think anyone would feel good about that record.

I often tell my clients that being sued often means you are successfully performing your duties as a physician, as a caretaker of the sick. When you help a lot of people, someone at some point is going to come after you. With a high-volume practice comes a greater risk of litigation.

Still, there is a whole client psychology of reacting to litigation. Some of my clients take it in stride - others take it more than just personally. They'll react to a lawsuit as if it is an attack on their family. And it can be a tough process. Sometimes they end up hating their defense lawyer as he represents "the system" to them. But in every case we go to the mat for our clients.

In the old days we were strictly a local practice, but we have evolved into a thriving regional firm. There were 200 lawyers when I started in Montgomery County - now there are 2,000. Back then you knew everyone, and you never needed a confirmation letter to document what the other side said he or she would do.

We've grown and prospered in the face of big changes. Some institutions have taken their legal work in-house. And the field has more new entrants every day. Our success is a credit to the talented attorneys who now guide our firm.

I wouldn't say I'm a very good teacher. In our firm our attorneys learn by doing. It's sink or swim - that's the way I did it, and I think that's the way to be successful, at anything.
