Harry M. Roth
Plaintiffs' Personal Injury Law - Philadelphia, PA

There are two basic rules at our firm: Talk it up - work together to understand and to solve a problem. The other, of course, to do the right thing - not the expedient thing, not the easy thing.

I think that philosophy sets us apart from most law firms - we are a team of talented lawyers, not individuals trying to make their own mark.

We are first and foremost a personal-injury law firm serving those who have been seriously injured because of negligence. We believe in that role, as lawyers and as advocates for our clients.

There's no question we have diversified our trial work over the years - our expertise in the courtroom has attracted new types of clients, including shareholders facing securities-law violations and with fiduciary claims. We recently represented the Bricklayers Union on a medical-insurance claim on behalf of its members. As I said, we think of ourselves as trial lawyers first. That's never going to change.

What we do today is consistent with what we've always done. It's simply widened our client base.

I should add, too, that our broadening experience in litigation has made us much more effective as personal-injury lawyers. That shows in our results. I think our clients know that, too. Our range has become one of our great strengths.

In my career I've worked with some of the best courtroom lawyers that Philadelphia was ever had. Arthur Raynes gave me one opportunity after another to develop cases, across all types of venues. I've been very fortunate to work with the best.

We've seen some tort reform in Pennsylvania, and the changes have mostly been procedural in nature. But the threat of major reform - of really limiting the citizens' access to justice and to the court system - is real. And our profession works hard to ensure that clients' rights are protected.

I think we have very talented lawyers who also happen to be good and decent people. The addition of Joel Rosen to our firm has only added to our firm's strength in complex litigation.

As it says on our website, we are cause-oriented. We are true believers in the civil trial process. That means we are committed to promoting justice and making a difference in the lives of our clients and the community. As we often say, our lawyers have taken on fights that many thought could not be won. That's not just a slogan. We truly work together - on behalf of all of our clients.
