Knowledge of all medical aspects of a client's case is power. This power helps me advocate to maximize a clients' recovery either by settlement with the defendant's insurance company - or in court. As a former registered pharmacist I had the opportunity to work at a major teaching hospital as part of the medical team treating patients, advising physicians and patients about medicines. My medical training, knowledge and experience give me the power, as a personal-injury lawyer, to better understand my client's serious injuries and complex medical treatment. It also gives me the power to be a forceful advocate for seriously injured clients because I can describe the full extent of their injuries and treatment - past, present and future - to insurance adjusters and jurors alike, in an effort to maximize my clients' recovery.
In addition, my medical training gives me the power to effectively review a client's complex medical records and understand positive findings such as lab results, MRI results and physical examination results that can make or break a serious injury case.
It is a huge responsibility when seriously injured clients and families who have lost a loved one choose me as their lawyer. They put their case, their trust and their future in my hands. Fighting for justice and making a difference in a client's life is what it is all about.
One of my most memorable cases was representing, pro bono, a U.S. Army Colonel injured during the September 11, 2001, attack on the Pentagon. I will always remember her thank-you note. She wrote: ‘You were there when I needed you most - you are my hero.'
