Criminal Defense Law - Hackensack, NJ

Criminal attorneys are known for being mavericks - we're independent minded, not often joiners of clubs. We are fast on our feet and usually don't have time for ceremonies. I'm no different. What happens in the courtroom is all that counts. But I've spent a lot of my career explaining the criminal justice system to people - to law students in the classroom, to television audiences, to jurors. I write on criminal-law issues as often as possible. I reach as many people as I can. I've won my share of big cases and had my share of high-profile clients. I handle a lot of cases every year - ranging from simple municipal court cases to complex white-collar cases and murder. People want to see me involved in their defense - my experience and expertise can make the difference in their case. I've built my practice over the years in two places - Bergen and Hudson counties, very distinct venues - and a lot of people know me and know my record in both county courthouses. I give them passion for their predicament. I'm tough because I won't give up and always ready to fight for my clients. It's often the lowest point in their lives. I'll serve as lawyer and friend through it all. Versatility is a key to being a complete criminal defense lawyer. I can handle myself in front of a judge or a jury. I can make my arguments on paper or "on my feet." I'm as comfortable before the Supreme Court justices as I am before a municipal court judge. One thing people should know: The criminal justice system can be not very forgiving, even to first-time offenders. A first-time offense does not mean you just face a "slap on the wrist," especially in white-collar criminal cases. Despite the popular view that the system is "soft on crime," there is truly an alarming amount of oppression of a person charged with a crime. The experience can destroy lives. That's why I love what I do - because I can and do often make a real and permanent difference in people's lives in their darkest personal hour.
