BIOGRAPHY Chuck Nugent has emerged as one of Southern New Jersey's most successful young trial attorneys. Still in his mid-40s, Nugent has built a reputation as an able litigator - in both criminal and civil matters - who relates well to jurors and clients alike. Personable and easy-going for a trial attorney, the Cherry Hill native is well liked by his peers and has solid and practical instincts for the law. That's hardly surprising, since Nugent was to some extent groomed for it: His father was a career lawyer in the US Attorneys Office in Southern New Jersey, who was also well known in South Jersey. "He always came home talking about his work - I knew it was for me early on," says the younger Nugent, the eldest son (his three siblings are attorneys and a physician). After law school Nugent went to work in Moorestown with Francis Hartman, one of the state's leading trial lawyers; it was there that Nugent gained valuable experience and exposed him to various complex cases, including a death-penalty murder case (his client was acquitted). In 1989 Nugent attended the National Criminal Defense College, further honing his trial skills. |

By the time he went out on his own in 1998, Nugent had established himself with a string of successful criminal and civil trial cases. As a Burlington County native, Nugent's ties to the community run deep; he's represented police officers in several cases and won dismissals or acquittals in most of those. While he spends much of his time in the federal and state court systems, he's known to take on municipal cases, such as DUI cases. Athletic (he's known to snowboard with his two children) and trim, Nugent could pass for younger than 40; today he maintains an office with a staff of four. He recently relocated to Lippincott Drive in Marlton. He and his family live in Medford, New Jersey.
