Employment Law - Uniondale, NY

Labor and employment law has been constantly evolving and is still a relatively new area of law. For example, the Civil Rights Act of 1991 significantly expanded the rights and remedies of employees; the Americans with Disabilities Act was enacted in 1993 and the Family Medical Leave Act passed in 1994. Just last year, New York State expanded the area of protected classes of employees to include sexual orientation and there are new regulations relating to genetics, overtime exemptions and executive compensation. In addition to new statutes and regulations, new technology and societal issues have also spawned new workplace disputes.

Previously, I successfully challenged Suffolk County's ill-conceived Video Display Terminal law. The Internet and computers have also created new workplace issues involving privacy, monitoring, security, defamation, harassment and even union organization. Further, electronic evidence is often a key factor in theft of trade secrets, harassment, noncompete, and discrimination cases.

It was Hall of Famer Enos Slaughter who helped me convert my competitive skills on the baseball diamond to my competitive skills in the courtroom. I was recruited to play baseball at Duke, and Enos Slaughter was installed as the new coach and he cut me from the squad. My dreams of playing professional baseball ended. I then turned my full attention to the study of law.

The variety and complexity of this area of practice, as well as the opportunity to help clients defend against frivolous, misguided or exaggerated claims, are what keep it interesting for me. Just when I believe I've heard it all, a new case or client comes along to prove me wrong. Moreover, there are numerous, unique ways to resolve employment disputes and successfully litigate employment claims. My goal is to educate employers as to their legal rights and obligations, help them protect their assets, and, when necessary, to vigorously defend them when their actions are challenged.

There are several talented labor and employment lawyers on Long Island, in New York City and around the United States. However, I believe that my firm's labor and employment attorneys are among the best in terms of experience, personal dedication and commitment to excellence. I firmly believe that every client and every matter deserves personal attention and a lawyer's best efforts, regardless of the amounts in dispute.
