I've been very fortunate - I was able to do real trial work early in my career, prosecuting dozens of administrative actions, as an associate with a labor litigation firm. I appeared as trial counsel on behalf of Municipal Authorities, and gained invaluable exposure to the art of civil litigation.

Some attorneys never took denial-of-claims arbitrations very seriously - such proceedings weren't high-profile enough, weren't "sexy" enough.

I decided to treat every arbitration case like it was a trial, with real damages on the line. I went in super prepared, ready not just to settle, but to fight for my physicians.

And what happened? I got a reputation for my aggressive approach - and for winning arbitrations. A lot of doctors appreciated it; if I lost they weren't getting compensated for their services.

Denial of "PIP" insurance claims is a serious problem - perfectly legitimate claims get shot down, routinely. Carriers are much more sophisticated in their reviews today. I have handled thousands of such denial-of-claims cases - they've given me insights and experience I could not have received any other way.

That experience is especially meaningful today. I am working with more and more physicians, and facilities, on broader and more complex issues. We are structuring medical-specialty practices and negotiating contracts with carriers in a regulatory environment that, let's just say, is getting more challenging by the day.

I love it, though. And one reason is I can relate to my clients: They work hard and they are good at what they do. I genuinely enjoy working with physicians, and making their practices work for them is very rewarding.
