Observations and Perspectives It wasn’t as though I went to law school planning to become a divorce lawyer. But something did draw me to it. I like people – and people, their daily lives, are the essence of every case in our area of the law. That’s why there are so many issues in a divorce case. Family issues. Children’s issues. Financial issues. And there is always an entirely new set of facts. That’s what keeps it fresh for me. There’s never, ever a dull moment.
I find that my work in divorce law requires more than just legal skills. Sometimes the challenge is to put people at ease. They sometimes come here shaking with fear. Even very accomplished professionals, including doctors and other lawyers -- are really full of emotion. Educating them is part of my role. It permits them to feel more at ease; and most important, to make sound decisions based upon substantive knowledge and information, rather than on emotion which may be fragile, hurt, or angry. I explain what their rights are, what the process involves, and what they can expect from all of it. I want my clients to be as fully informed as possible. This way we can work together much more efficiently and effectively. It goes a long way in helping me help them. Our firm is amazing – in fact, I think it’s unique. |
"It’s always a team approach. I know our clients benefit from that. I think it is because we really care about our clients and, because of it, we are responsive to their needs."
We are one of the largest boutiques in the state, but there is a camaraderie here that doesn’t exist at most firms. Every matter we handle is an opportunity for our attorneys to learn something more. We share our knowledge – there’s no exclusive case for a single lawyer. It’s always a team approach. I know our clients benefit from that. I think it is because we really care about our clients and, because of it, we are responsive to their needs. What we do as family law attorneys is really a way of life for us and I feel extremely fortunate. Ed (Snyder) and Jeff (Weinstein) have helped all of us become the professionals we are today. When you have that kind of support and loyalty, it’s really great coming to work every day.
