Divorce Law - Pennington, NJ

I'm a fairly easygoing person, and I don't seek out controversy. But I have no problem being confrontational if I have to be, even with my own clients. If I have to say, "Look, you can't take this position," I won't hesitate.

There are lawyers out there who will let the client drive the case - and that can lead to fiascos. That's something we've seen plenty of - and it's always hurt or set back the interests of the clients themselves.

I'm very good at negotiation, dealing with the courts, responding to the pressures of deadlines.

As I tell my clients. I have a certain approach, or philosophy and typically a good ability to determine an appropriate response on their part. And I tell them: I'm the advertiser - you're the product.

As one of my colleagues once said: Always underpromise - and always overachieve. That's a sensible approach when everyone is trying to sell their services.

I have a very good initial interview process. I tell the client to bring as much as he or she can in terms of information - income, assets, so forth. I'll write down an outline - based on the information presented to me. That keeps the salesman part of me in check.

I feel that common sense is one of my strong points. As a rule I don't gild the lily. And I don't play sphinx - I usually never say 'I don't know.' Based on the information provided me, I'll give an opinion. That's served me well over the last 30 years.

In some respects divorce law has gotten a lot meaner. More attorneys are resorting to tactics that simply wouldn't have been tolerated 25 years ago. And we seek out experts on everything - we have been told to retain sociologists to value and analyze leisure time, for instance. It can get pretty crazy.

But I love it, and I've never been happier. I think we have a great firm; we have a productive and results-oriented culture that I know our clients benefit from.

Over the past several years, I have mediated high asset cases. I enjoy serving as a mediator, as I feel that I can use my years of experience to resolve very complex disputes. I educate the parties as to what they can expect in litigation, which helps us achieve a fair result in mediation.
