Cheifetz is a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, as well as an adjunct professor of law at the Seton Hall University Law School. Among his many other affiliations, he is a member of the Matrimonial Law Committee of the Supreme Court Board on Attorney Trial Certification, and he is immediate past chair of New Jersey State Bar Association Family Law Executive Committee. He is also managing editor of the publication New Jersey Family Lawyer.
