Eric S. Solotoff
Divorce Law - Morristown, NJ

A shrewd practitioner with a sharp legal mind, Eric S. Solotoff is one of the leading matrimonial attorneys in New Jersey today. It’s been 17 years since he joined Fox Rothschild in its North Jersey office, after several years with a prominent matrimonial boutique firm. Since 2010, he has been co-chair of Fox Rothschild’s Family Law Practice Group. Among matrimonial attorneys, Solotoff is well known, well liked and respected by those many years his senior. Given his strong instincts to identify trends in the law and his willingness to share his ideas, Solotoff has long maintained a leadership role in New Jersey matrimonial law.

For the Brooklyn native the law was not exactly a calling: He’d done well in college and considered pursuing a PhD in psychology. At Widener University School of Law, “I forced myself into the courtroom early” by participating in the Pennsylvania Civil Law Clinic that gave him valuable court experience: “It was a low-risk way to develop courtroom skills,” he recalls. Another valuable professional asset: an advanced legal degree in taxation. With a super-strong grasp of case law (“I’ve got a pretty good memory”), Solotoff is naturally suited to complex case-work. Immediately he “really got my feet wet” both working in the clinic and then with a Morristown matrimonial attorney with whom he’s worked with twice in his career.

Indeed, Solotoff has spiced his resume with some interesting diversions: he practiced in suburban Denver, Colorado, in 1995-96 before being lured back by a New Jersey matrimonial firm. The experiences only added to a strong sense of personal perspective. (Indeed, he brings a special sensitivity to the field, which stems from his parents’ divorce when he was young.) Solotoff also bridges a generation gap between an older generation of attorneys that’s notoriously technophobic and a younger group fluent in the language of the computer and the internet.

Today, Solotoff who is Certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Matrimonial Law Attorney, and a fellow in the American Association of Matrimonial Attorneys, maintains a reputation built largely on a satisfied client list and adversaries who recognize his performance. In fact, at present he represents several lawyers or their spouses. He also represents business owners, executives, physicians, professional athletes, entertainers and their spouses, handling matters that have a lot at stake or where conflict is high. Solotoff is equally adept at doing things “the easy way or hard way, as a case requires, but always approaches each matter with a well thought out strategy and from a position of strength.”

A lifelong baseball fan, Solotoff struggles to attend as many Mets games as he can during the season, though coaching his son’s baseball, football and basketball teams has added to his already busy schedule. With his wife and two children (“Fatherhood has made me even more sensitive to what we do”), he lives in Morris County, New Jersey.
