Affiliations Laurence Cutler's numerous and extensive professional affiliations reflect his leadership role in the matrimonial bar since 1970. Cutler is a member of the New York and New Jersey state bars, and is admitted before the U.S. District District Court for New Jersey and the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals, as well as the U.S. Supreme Court. He is an arbitrator and mediator certified by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, is certified by the New Jersey Supreme Court as a Matrimonial Law Attorney, and is a former master of the New Jersey Family Law Inns of Court, an educational venue for young attorneys. For more than a third of a century, Cutler has been one of the most active members of the matrimonial bar, holding virtually every post at both the state and national levels available to a New Jersey matrimonial lawyer, including having been the youngest president of the New Jersey chapter of the AAML as well as the youngest chairman of the Family Law Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association, and the first to have accomplished both. He is also a founding fellow of the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, as well as a founding diplomate of the American College of Family Trial Lawyers, and also a founding affiliate of the Matrimonial Lawyers Alliance. |
"We are in a people business. Therefore, it's important to care in our area of the law, and to be able to relate to what each client is going through. "
Cutler has sat on five separate committees of the New Jersey Supreme Court, helping guide the evolution of the law itself. In 1992, Cutler received the Saul Tichler Award in recognition of his contributions to the advancement of family law, the highest such award, as well in 2002, the Alfred C. Clapp Award in recognition of his contributions to continuing legal education, also the highest such award. In addition to being an adjunct professor of law at Seton Hall Law School, he has taught and lectured extensively for years on matrimonial law in venues ranging from AAML conferences to the Institute for Continuing Legal Education.
