Elena Karabatos is a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and a member of the New York Chapter's Board of Managers. She is also a member of the Matrimonial Law Committee of the Nassau County Bar Association on which she serves as the co-editor of Recent Decisions of Matrimonial Law published monthly. Recently she joined its board of directors. She is the former chair of the Child Custody sub-committee and the Appellate Practice sub-committee of the Nassau County Bar Family Law Section. In addition, Elena is the co-editor of the two volume work Separation Agreements and Marital Contracts (Michie 1997). She is an adjunct professor at Hofstra University Law School where she teaches a course on negotiation. She also served as chair of the Matrimonial Law Section of the Continuing Legal Education Program at Fordham Law School. Elena has given lectures on various topics such as custody relocation, separation agreements, and divorce grounds to judges at judge’s programs and she regularly chairs or speaks at programs sponsored by the Practicing Law Institute, and lectures for various bar associations including New York State, New York City, and Nassau County, as well as various other groups. Elena is certified in advanced mediation by the Straus Institute of Dispute Resolution and she is certified in mediation of custody and visitation matters by the Bar Association of the City of New York.
