Stephen Schlissel's many affiliations reflect his longtime role as a leader not only in matrimonial law, but in legal circles statewide and nationally. A member of the American Bar Association, the New York Bar Assn. and the Nassau County Bar Association, Schlissel is a fellow in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. He received its President's Award in recognition of his many contributions to the law. He is included among the diplomats of the American College of Family Trial Lawyers, one of fewer than 100 in the nation with that designation. He is one of only 19 attorneys statewide who sit on the State Appellate Division's Client Fee Dispute Resolution Program. Schlissel is also an adjunct professor of the law schools of Hofstra University, Brooklyn and Touro colleges. Finally, Schlissel is widely known for his philanthropic work - he received the Nassau County Bar's WE CARE Fund's highest award, for his charitable work - serving on, among others, the Lupus Foundation of New York and the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County, and is a founder of the Jewish Center of Ocean Harbor of Oceanside, N.Y., and a founder of the Interdisciplinary Forum of Nassau County.
