Observations and Perspectives Our job is and always has been to guide our clients through one of the most difficult periods of their lives. It's true, we handle difficult and complex cases, but the objectives are generally the same: To achieve a sustainable agreement, to help minimize the devastating emotional impact on everyone involved, including the children. The state's child support standards define generally what support should be set at - but beyond that, the divorce process can consist of many, many layers of complexity. That we aren't going to reach a resolution in two or three months can create enormous frustration. It's our job to properly manage the process -- in every case we are more than simply attorneys: Some might even say divorce attorneys are practicing psychologists, but without the license. Clients are already deeply emotionally involved, but most need to prepare themselves better for the challenges of divorce. That's why I co-founded the parent education program, PEACE (Parent Education and Custody Effectiveness) program, and I know that has contributed positively to easing the emotional impact of changing family dynamics. |
"Ultimately it's fairly simple: If a good lawyer cares about people, she or he's going to have a successful practice - and more successful outcomes."
As attorneys we always prepare for the possibility of litigation, but the preferred outcomes are based on well negotiated settlements. The fact is, a spouse is more likely to comply with a decision made in a sensible and workable settlement. Good attorneys contribute to reaching those kinds of settlements. Ultimately it's fairly simple: If a good lawyer cares about people, she or he's going to have a successful practice - and more successful outcomes. Copyright © 2002-2008 The Ten Leaders Cooperative |
