Dana M. Stutman
Divorce Law - New York, NY

I'm from a family of doctors, but my grandfather was an accountant-turned-lawyer, so my career path had some precedent. I became interested in practicing law because the profession suited my skills - I am process oriented, a good preparer, and analytical. In every case there is an enormous amount of information to synthesize. And solid preparation is at the heart of what successful litigators and lawyers do. There is no substitute for preparation.

I've been fortunate to practice with some of the best minds in divorce law. I know that my early experiences - in the courtroom, at the negotiating table - made a difference right away for my clients as well. I joined bar organizations and committees early in my career, which introduced me to a range of talented lawyers.

I am a CPA, and worked for several years for a major accounting firm. Few matrimonial lawyers bring to our work the financial background that I am fortunate to have. That expertise brought me into very complex financial cases from the start of my career.

It's not difficult to manage client expectations if you listen to them. I tell my clients the truth. I am fairly direct. And I listen, from the first conversation.

Today our firm is a diverse group of professionals, and I think the partners bring a strong reputation for effective representation to our clients. We offer a broad range of expertise - divorce law is comprised of many different practices, litigation, mediation, creative problem solving. We have each seen and handled many complex divorce cases through our years in practice - each is distinct and handled in a unique way. I'm proud of the high quality of our firm's representation.
