BIOGRAPHY

Over the last three decades Steven Abel has built a reputation as an honest, straight-shooting problem-solver of the Rockland County matrimonial bar. Experienced, knowledgeable and easy going, Abel thought he'd become a journalist after college, but finding "The New York Times wouldn't hire me right away," he went to law school. After passing the bar, in the mid-70s, Abel was an associate in a small Spring Valley firm, and it was there that he fell into matrimonial law. Early on he took the divorce case of an Episcopal minister, and other cases followed. He gained valuable courtroom experience working as an assistant county attorney. He went on to serve in many positions in the community, including serving as one of the first Hearing Examiners for Rockland County, a Family Court support arbitrator.

"People want to be treated with respect, and I make sure that we do so; at such a moment in their lives, they are entitled to that."

In 1990 Abel, by then very well known in the Southern New York matrimonial bar, teamed up with Lynn Brustein-Kampel; a third attorney works for them in their New City practice.
