You know that old expression - The Client is Always Right? Well, there is some truth to that. When clients insist upon acting against their own best interests, it is our responsibility as counselors at law to show them the way. But in doing so, we must always keep in mind that all clients want to feel that their lawyer is on their side. Early in my career I didn't always appreciate that dynamic. But today, after handling the personal matters of hundreds of successful and intelligent people, I am increasingly aware of how to counsel clients in a way that demonstrates to them that I have their best interests at heart. I know I am a better lawyer for that.

The key to a good attorney-client relationship is to develop a good rapport. A high level of trust and confidence enables you to best represent their interests in an indifferent world.

I admit that in the early years, I was more combative with the other side, because I believed that was the only way to win. Over the years I developed other skills, through taking advanced mediation courses as well as basic life experience, which have broadened my repertoire - helping me to achieve the same result with less angst. We will always approach every case with an eye on resolution. Rarely do we come out with guns blazing. Today, I know when that's in the best interest of my clients.

I have always loved getting to know people, and getting involved in their lives in a constructive way. In addition to technical expertise, what clients appreciate most from their attorney is hearing the truth. But you have to be careful how you communicate what may sometimes be earth-shattering news. As I've grown older, I've learned to communicate with greater sensitivity. When clients come in at first, I tell them what to expect emotionally and financially, and how rough it will be at times. They may not like it at first, but are grateful in the end

I love what I do, and I have since the day I started. My partner Florence Fass and I are a proven team, and I am proud of our practice. We've built our firm on the successes we've achieved for our clients. That means the world to me.
