Gregory Rauscher, M.D.
Plastic Surgery - Hackensack, NJ

What I do involves several steps - which are all harmoniously combined. There's a great focus on the patient's problem well before any procedure. I study our patient's unique situation so that by the time I undertake a procedure any finding, expected or unexpected, can be easily addressed. With that preparation, the surgical outcome can be reliably attained.

Our office - all of our professional staff - is dedicated to making a patient's experience with us as easy and low-stress as possible. We take pride in treating everyone like members of our own family. We follow up, personally. We all treat patients with compassion and caring, as we would want to be treated.

Most of our patients are motivated to improve themselves, in one way or another. Everyone has their own personal motivation. Some potential patients' expectations are unrealistic due to misinformation - we counsel and discourage surgery in those cases. In most instances cosmetic surgical patients feel that it's more worthwhile to look better in the mirror than to have a mink coat in the closet.

We understand that a great percentage of what we do might be considered psychosurgery - at the date of the surgery there is a physical as well as psychological change. My staff and I understand that we are guiding that change. While we encourage realistic expectations, we also understand that any procedure can have a great impact on one's life, and even one's outlook on life.

I think the key for all of us is to have a sense of compassion in what we do. Over the years we have received thousands of letters from patients who write to express their appreciation. I am sometimes surprised that they make so much effort to express emotions that they could not initially convey.

But it means they are still thinking about us, and that's very gratifying. We look forward to coming to work every day.
