It's not uncommon to find me carrying a photo album these days. As I tell my patients, let's go to the photos - let's see what has been done, and what can be done. I think that's one of the best ways to understand what we do - and to assist the patient in developing realistic expectations. Results really count in our work, and I'm proud that I consistently perform at a high level to achieve those wonderful, natural appearing results.
I encourage all patients to make a list of questions they would like to discuss during consultation. Patients will typically ask questions regarding the surgical procedure and post-surgical recovery. However, just as important, I feel, are questions regarding the surgeon's experience with the patient's specific procedure. In our profession, experience really counts. The goal is to have a well informed patient who is confident with their decision to have elective surgery and their choice of surgeon. I believe it's extremely important to provide my patients with honest opinions regarding the necessary procedures to achieve their desired results.
More than anything else, I have built my practice on patient referrals. I've always made an effort to relate to my patients - and to understand them, their expectations, and the problem they want to address. I think that's why people remember me. The Internet has certainly made everyone better informed. Often, though, the information isn't accurate. There's always something of a re-education process once people see me, and after they've gone to all the Web sites.
More than just doing a specific operation, a procedure must be tailored to the individual's overall appearance. Proportion and a sense of harmony should pervade the result. My goal is to make the patient look the best they can possibly look from a particular procedure.
When you love what you do it shows. I love what I do, and it really does show. I'm proud of that.
