With strong knowledge of the law and keen intuition of people, Neil E. Kozek has emerged as one of the top matrimonial attorneys in New York today. Indeed, Kozek - knowledgeable, energetic and amiable - has earned the respect of both the judiciary and of his peers during the past twenty years. Along with his partner, Georgia Kramer, Kramer Kozek, LLP was launched in 2003 after more than 30 years of affiliation with larger New York City and national law firms as a premier matrimonial boutique law firm in White Plains. They have combined to create what has become one of the leading - and, with five attorneys, largest - firms dedicated to creatively resolving family conflict in Westchester County.
A native of southern New Jersey, Kozek says he had "normal expectations of overachievement" growing up, nearly an understatement given his record. As an 18-year-old high school senior, he served as a Gloucester County committeeman; he was the youngest political official in the state at that time. At Rutgers College he was active in campus government and was a leader in many other University pursuits. "Believe it or not I never wanted to get into politics." Kozek, outgoing and curious, was simply interested in people and in interpersonal group dynamics. In fact, many thought Kozek was destined for a career in psychology or other mental-health professions. He excelled in undergraduate and law school, where, after two years of dense legal academics, he took a course in family law. "Finally, something I can relate to" he recalls. He saw the field as a natural calling. He clerked for the Superior Court of New Jersey, Family Division for Judge Samuel D. Natal, and later joined a prominent northern New Jersey matrimonial practice. Over a decade he practiced law with northern New Jersey's and Manhattan's premier divorce lawyers, soaking in their style and developing his own. Peers say Kozek is adept at understanding people's needs and motivations, a key element to resolving divorce matters; but he adds, "each case is different - there are no 'stereotypes' in divorce." Forward-looking, Kozek founded The New York Collaborative Law Group, a league of nearly 100 independent attorneys dedicated to the new and growing "third option" in resolving divorce cases. In 2003, Kozek, already well-known as an up-and-coming attorney in New York and Westchester, teamed up with Kramer, the well-known divorce litigator.
Kramer Kozek, listed in the "Bar Register of Pre-eminent Law Firms", is located in well-appointed offices in downtown White Plains. Kozek's firm is well known as a center for progressive divorce - dispute resolution, Collaborative Law and litigation in all matters involving families in conflict.
Away from the office, Kozek is busy with his wife and three young children. They live in nearby Harrison.
